1959 – Jackie Fargo defeats Jesse James, to win the NWA Southern Junior Heavyweight Championship.

1967 – In the World Wrestling Association, Wilbur Snyder defeats Mitsu Arakawa, to win the WWA World Heavyweight Championship.

1968 – The Red Shadow and Don Carson defeat Lester Welch and Buddy Fuller, to win the NWA Mid-Southern Tag Team Championship.

1971 – Marie Vagnone and Jane Sherill defeat Jumbo Miyamoto and Maxie Murata, to win the World Women’s Wrestling Association (WWWA) Tag Team Championship.

1973 – Miyoko Hoshina and Peggy Kuroda defeat Masked Lee and Lita Perez, to win the WWWA World Tag Team Championship.

1974 – Duker Myers and Blue Scorpion defeat Ricky and Johnny Fields, to win the NWA Mid-America Tag Team Championship.

1977 – Ox Baker defeats Captain USA, to win the NWA American Heavyweight Championship.  Elsewhere, The Samoans defeat Norvell Austin and Pat Barrett, to win the NWA Mid-Southern Tag Team Championship.

1978 – Gypsy Joe and Tojo Yamamoto defeat Ken Lucas and Dutch Mantell, to win the NWA Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Championship.

1984 – Gran Cochisse defeats El Satanico, to win the NWA World Middleweight Championship.

1985 – Jerry Lawler and Bill Dundee defeat The Fabulous Freebirds, to win the NWA Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Championship.  Elsewhere The Mongolian Stomper defeats Phil Hickerson, to win the AWA International Heavyweight Championship.  Stomper won the title despite the match ending in Hickerson being counted out.

1992 – Don Muraco defeats Jimmy Snuka, to win the ECW Championship.  Also, Glenn Osbourne defeats The Sandman, to win the vacant ECW World Television Championship.  The title had been vacated by Johnny Hotbody on September 12, after a legitimate ankle injury.

1996 – In the Monday Night Wars, WCW Monday Nitro (3.3 TV rating) defeats WWE Monday Night Raw (2.3 rating).

1999 – On SmackDown, Triple H is forced to put his WWE Championship on the line in a match against The British Bulldog;  with The Rock as the special guest referee.  The match ends in a no-contest, after Bulldog attacks The Rock after he refuses to count a pin-fall for either competitor (at various points The Rock was on commentary at the announcer’s table during the match).  The Rock regroups and lays out Triple H and gives a (sliding) People’s Elbow to the Bulldog, and then exits the ring with the WWE title.

2002 – On WWE RAW, Kane defeats Chris Jericho, to win the Intercontinental Championship.

2006 – Kory Williams defeats Big Bully Douglas, to win the NWA National Heavyweight Championship.

2011 – Gail Kim’s contract with WWE officially expires.  Kim had announced via Twitter on August 5th, that she had quit the company.  WWE would not grant Kim a release and forced her to stay with the company until her contract expired.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO: Former TNA World Tag Team Champion and current Cincinnati Bengal Adam “Pacman” Jones (33 years old), former WWE Women’s Champion Candice Michelle (38 years old), former Shimmer Women Athletes Tag Team Champion Kellie Skater (29 years old), and former TNA X Division and World Tag Team Champion Trevor Lee (23 years old).

Today would’ve been the 47th birthday for Chris Von Erich.  Chris committed suicide on September 12, 1991 at the age of 21.  He had become depressed over the death of his brother Mike (who committed suicide in 1987), and his inability to succeed in the wrestling business.
