WWE SMACKDOWN RESULTS – SEPTEMBER 27, 2024

WWE Then. Now. Forever. Together. gets us started.

Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes, Kevin Owens & The Bloodline Kick Things Off

Randy Orton’s theme hits and out he comes to kick off this week’s show. He talks about it being good to be back in a SmackDown ring on a Friday night after handling some business on Raw in recent weeks.

He talks about how he doesn’t trust a lot of people, but says Cody Rhodes is one of them. That’s why he doesn’t understand why Cody is teaming up with Roman Reigns of all people. He wants an explanation and calls Cody out to give it to him.

Cody’s theme hits and out comes “The American Nightmare.” He talks highly of Orton and then mentions how he was thrust into the situation he’s in. He says Roman gave him his word and at WWE Bad Blood, he is going to take him at his word.

He says it seems like the WWE fans are also taking Roman at his word. Fans chant “OTC! OTC” Cody calls Orton his friend and says he hopes it’s not a problem for him. He extends his hand to shake.

Orton says of course it’s no problem, unless you make it one. Kevin Owens’ theme then hits and “The Prize Fighter” emerges. Before he can say anything, the theme for The Bloodline hits and out comes Solo Sikoa, Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa.

Solo talks about how Cody is trusting Roman because he has to, because every time he tries to battle The Bloodline with Orton and/or Owens, they let him down. Owens fires back and says no one wants to hear Solo. He challenges him and Jacob to a tag bout against he and Orton. Cody tries to make it a six-man, but Owens says he’s got his own tag match with Roman to focus on.

WWE Women’s Championship No. 1 Contender
Bayley vs. Naomi

The segment wraps up there, and then Michael Cole and Corey Graves introduce highlights from last week’s show of Bayley and Naomi both pinning Nia Jax to set up their number one contender bout to determine Jax’s title challenger for WWE Bad Blood tonight.

Backstage, Nia Jax grabs Tiffany Stratton by the throat and demands answers for what happened last week. Stratton apologizes and says she was hurt. Nia tells Stratton if things go bad for her, things will go worse for Tiffy-Time. She smacks her on the arm and says “see, now we can be friends again.” When she walks off, Stratton gives a dirty look.

Inside the arena, Bayley’s theme hits and she makes her way to the ring for the aforementioned number one contenders bout. As she settles in the ring, we shift gears and head into our first commercial break of the evening.

When the show returns, Cole and Graves inform us that Nick Aldis has confirmed Owens & Orton vs. Solo & Jacob for tonight’s main event. Naomi’s theme hits and she comes to the ring. The bell sounds and we’re officially off-and-running with this one.

After some back-and-forth action, we head into a mid-match commercial break. When we return, Bayley and Naomi both come close to finishing things off, but ultimately it is Bayley who hits a Bayley-to-belly and top-rope elbow drop for the win. With the win, Bayley vs. Nia Jax for the WWE Women’s title is set for WWE Bad Blood.

Winner and NEW No. 1 Contender: Bayley

Carmelo Hayes vs. Andrade VI

Backstage, LA Knight is seen standing around, when Andrade approaches him. He said he respected him for beating him, but has a problem with him after their handshake fumble last week.

Carmelo Hayes appears out of nowhere and takes out Knight. He tells Andrade he’s got some for him, too. Inside the arena, Andrade and Hayes each make their respective ring entrances. The bell sounds to get match six in their going series officially off-and-running.

Things immediately get underway between these two, and after a big high spot to the floor, we head into a mid-match commercial break. When we return, we see Hayes controlling the action back inside the squared circle. A split chant for both guys breaks out from the fans.

After some more back-and-forth action, we shift gears and head into another mid-match commercial break as the bout continues. When we return, LA Knight ends up coming out as the match is still in progress.

The distraction leads to Hayes picking up the win. Knight and Andrade have not-so-pleasant words afterwards. Knight offers a handshake but Andrade wants nothing to do with it this time. He walks off in a huff instead.

Winner: Carmelo Hayes

Michin vs. Piper Niven

Backstage, we see Orton and Owens talking when Cody comes in and says he can tell there is an issue and says he and Owens need to talk. Owens says he’s right, but says he can’t talk now because he’s got a match to focus on.

He leaves, but not before telling Cody to stay in the back during their match later. After he leaves, Orton stands up and tells Cody he’ll talk to Owens for him. He then says the opposite of what Owens said, asking Cody to keep an eye out and help if need be later tonight.

We see Michin walking backstage as she is up next. We head to a break. When we return, a vignette promoting AJ Styles’ return to SmackDown on next week’s show airs. Back inside the arena, Michin heads to the ring.

Out next is Chelsea Green with a gross-smelling trash can accompanying Piper Niven to the ring. The bell sounds and Niven and Michin begin mixing it up. We head into a mid-match break a few moments later.

When we return, we see some more back-and-forth action, with Niven getting involved, but ultimately, it is Michin who gets the pinfall for the victory ahead of next week’s Dumpster match.

Winner: Michin

Randy Orton & Kevin Owens vs. Solo Sikoa & Jacob Fatu

It’s main event time!

When we return from the break, Naomi and Bayley make friends after their match earlier. Tiffany Stratton confronts Naomi, who challenges her to a match, which she heads off to get confirmed by Nick Aldis.

A vignette airs announcing WWE Women’s Tag-Team Champions Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair as the official hosts of next weekend’s WWE Bad Blood 2024 premium live event in Atlanta, GA.

Inside the arena, Randy Orton’s theme hits and out he comes for our final match of the evening. As he settles in the ring, we shift gears and head into a quick pre-match commercial break.

When we return, Orton is settled in the ring, as is Kevin Owens. The Bloodline theme hits and out comes Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu without Tama Tonga or Tonga Loa by their side. They settle in the ring and it’s time for our final match of the evening.

Owens and Fatu kick things off for their respective teams. Owens drills Fatu with repeated shots to start things off, but then Fatu runs him over after coming off the ropes. Owens fights back and hits a back-splash senton to a grounded Fatu.

We head to a mid-match commercial break with Owens being dominated. When we return, we see Owens still being manhandled by Sikoa and Fatu. He finally makes the tag and Orton goes wild on offense, shifting the momentum in his team’s favor.

Owens tags back in to try and finish things off, but instead, we see Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa run down. Cody Rhodes comes out to make the save, per Orton’s request, but ends up getting beat down and thrown into the ring right when Orton and Owens had things won. Due to the distraction, Owens gets super kicked and pinned. Owens isn’t happy.

Cody goes to console Owens as he watches The Bloodline walk off in victory. Owens wants nothing to do with it and shoves Cody. Orton runs in to separate the two and he tries to play peacemaker, but Owens in particular doesn’t want anything to do with it. Orton eventually gets Owens to hug Cody and that’s how the show goes off the air. Thanks for joining us!

Winners: The Bloodline
