Update on Zelina Vega’s WWE departure

Dave Meltzer provided an update on the Zelina Vega situation:

“As you know talent was given a time frame to get rid of their Twitch and Cameo accounts. Thea Trinidad (Zelina Vega) did not get rid of hers and she opened up an Only Fans account as well. So one person told me they’re a couple of women that are making more money with their social media than they are with WWE. One of those women was Zelina Vega. She was making a lot money on her Twitch. She made her choice and they had to fire her.

They’re are two different tiers of contracts right now in WWE. They’re are contracts that were handed out for lucrative amounts of money once AEW was formed and then there were the ones that were signed before AEW she was a part of that group. I know there’s this idea that since you’re in WWE you make a ridiculous amount of money and many do and many don’t. A lot of them have low guarantees but you were still making a good deal of money due to the house shows.

But now instead of working 180 days a year you’re only working 52 or maybe 58 days counting PPVs. So there is no house show money coming in for talents. That money is gone. It actually benefits the company by there not being house shows as they’ve been saving costs.
Now with only working one day a week talent we’re figuring out ways to make money on their time off to augment the money they were losing and now WWE is trying to take that away from them. But from WWE’s side I understand where they’re coming from they own the name and you’re trying to make money off your wrestling name and not your real name.

Also from a corporate standpoint they want to do their own deal with Twitch, they’re working on it now after seeing the money certain people were making. But the independent contractor aspect comes into play because if they were employees true employees WWE could do this. You’re figuring ways out to make money on the side when you’re not a full time employee.

She’ll land on her feet though if it’s ROH, Impact, or AEW because right now she’s hotter than she’s ever been.”
