Biography

– McCord was working in construction before deciding to attempt a career in wrestling
– McCord spent a year training under the Graham family in Florida, whilst also working as a referee for Graham’s CWF promotion
– McCord (working under the name Dennis McCord) made his in ring debut on January 10, 1972, losing to Corsica Jean
– ‘Mike McCord’ joined the WWWF in March 1973 and would challenge Pedro Morales for the WWWF Title at several live events
– In 1974, McCord returned to CWF as ‘The Super Texan’
– After losing his mask to Jos LeDuc, Mike McCord re-emerged in GCW in the summer of 1974
– On September 17, 1974, McCord & Bill Dromo defeated The Andersons (Gene & Ole) in a No-DQ Match to win the NWA Georgia Southeastern Tag Team Titles, but would lose them back a month later
– McCord returned to CWF in November 1974
– By 1978, McCord was working as ‘Austin Idol’ and touring various NWA territories across the US
– On December 25, 1978, Idol defeated Jerry Lawler to win the AWA Southern Heavyweight Title

– In August 1987, Idol returned to All Japan for another tour
– In 1990, Idol joined the USWA, but was very much in the process of winding down his active wrestling career
– In 1993, Idol attempted to launch his own ‘USA Wrestling’ promotion in Alabama, but it was not a success
– Idol formally retired from wrestling in 1998, but hadn’t wrestled a match for four years prior
– In retirement, Idol expanded his real estate investments
– Idol came out of retirement for the 2011 JCW Legends & Icons event, defeating Koko B Ware, Dutch Mantel, Brickhouse Brown & Doug Gilbert in a 5-Way Match
– Idol briefly hosted his own ‘Rock & Roll Wrestling Show’ on American Hearts Radio in late 2012
– Idol returned to wrestling in a managerial role in 2017, accompanying Nick Aldis to the ring at NWA events
– In 2020, Idol established a wrestling school in Greenville, SC
– In 2021, Idol formed the ‘Idolmania Sports Management’ stable in the NWA, with himself as the mouthpiece
