Update on the ROH Contracts of Matt Taven and Marty Scurll
We previously reported that ROH Champion Matt Taven’s contract is set to expire at the end of this month, while Marty Scurll has a contract that will expire in November. According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, those within ROH expect Taven to stay in ROH and he is currently in negotiations to do just that.
One of the reasons to give the ROH title to Taven, even though his contract expired before Scurll’s (in spite of the belief at the time), was that ROH wanted to build Taven up and Scurll was the bigger risk of leaving. Meanwhile, ROH wanted to use Scurll to build up PCO and Brody King. PCO, like Rush, Jeff Cobb and Bandido, has a one-year deal. It’s unknown where he’ll go when that deal is up, but it’s believed that due to his age it’ll be the “highest bidder.” Bandido and Cobb are likely to remain as they like the easier schedule and access to NJP ROHW.
As for Scurll, AEW is obviously interested in him, especially more than Taven, when his contract expires. He is in talks to stay, but he is friends with The Elite and was made more popular with the Being the Elite series. WWE is also said to be a “viable” option for their NXT brand. The report says “not to dismiss the idea he’d go to any of the three options,” meaning ROH, AEW or WWE.
