Prediction: “AEW will last a couple of years at most and lose tens of millions of dollars”
Former WCW announcer Chris Cruise via Facebook:
I’m the guy who told you Nakamura and Asuka would fade quickly and they did. I’m the guy who told you Becky Lynch would fade quickly and she did. I’m the guy who told you Ring Warriors would bomb quickly and it did (although that is a prediction that anyone could have made, to be honest). I’m the guy who told you Bobby Roode had no charisma, and he has none. I told you these things and many more and was always correct. And many of you hated me for it because you are fanboys and you think because you love pro wrestling that it is popular. Now I am telling you that AEW will last a couple of years at most and lose tens of millions of dollars. You really should listen to me. I have a good track record on these things. AEW has been great for the performers by providing them with leverage in their negotiations with WWE. But there is no demand from the US market for more televised pro wrestling. The sport has peaked; it is in a long, steady decline. AEW is a vanity promotion packed with has-beens and never was-es. It cannot succeed without being propped up by a billionaire’s money. As a fan of pro wrestling I’m happy that AEW has come on the scene and wish it all the best — and would love it if I was proven wrong. But I don’t think anyone who analyzes the current wrestling scene in the US could reasonably predict success for it.
