Possible Spoiler on Intercontinental Title Match at Elimination Chamber
Finn Balor will face both Bobby Lashley and Lio Rush in a handicap match with Lashley’s Intercontinental title on the line. We previously reported that the match may be in place as a way to put the title on Balor but protect Lashley by having Rush take the pin, and it seems that as today, that’s still the plan. In the latest Wrestling Observer Radio (via Ringside News, Dave Meltzer questioned the booking of the match and doubled down on his stance that WWE booked the match to put the title on Balor and protect Lashley.
He said: “If Bobby’s going to retain then it makes no [sense], you know because I thought the whole idea was for Finn to be able to beat Lio Rush and get the championship that way and avoid Bobby Lashley losing to Finn. Obviously it could go either way, but I wouldn’t have booked — If it was like the fourth meeting down and Lio Rush had kept interfering so then Finn goes, ‘I want them in a handicap match,’ that’s one thing. When you start off in a handicap match rather than doing the big singles match that kinda tells me that you’re looking for a cheap finish.“
