WWE Mae Young Classic Tournament Coverage – Episode 8

Episode 8 opens with a recap of the quarterfinals and then focuses on the Final 4: Mercedes Martinez, Shayna Baszler, Toni Storm, and Kairi Sane. We see the opening video and then go into the arena where Jim Ross and Lita welcome us to the show. We take a look at the first two competitors, Shayna Baszler and Mercedes Martinez.

Match #1: Tournament Semifinal Match – Mercedes Martinez vs. Shayne Baszler
Martinez takes Baszler to the mat, but Baszler gets right back to her feet. Martinez delivers forearm shots and chop that sends Baszler to the corner. Martinez delivers more forearms and another chop once in the corner. She does the same thing in the next corner and then taunts Baszler. Martinez gets a series of right hands that backs Baszler into the ropes. Martinez kicks Baszler in the back and then applies a rear naked choke down on the mat. Baszler gets free, but Martinez drives her elbow into Baszler’s neck repeatedly. Martinez goes back to the choke hold, but Baszler gets free and gets to her feet. Baszler delivers a series of kicks and then rights and lefts. Baszler sends Martinez to the corner and connects with a running knee lift.
Baszler delivers a gut-wrench suplex, and then another, and goes for the cover, but Martinez kicks out at two. Baszler kicks Martinez a few times and goes for another cover, but Martinez kicks out again. Baszler applies a knee-bar submission down on the mat, but Martinez counters it into a modified STF submission. Baszler fights out and she and Martinez exchange right forearm down on the mat. Martinez gets the upperhand and kicks Baszler in the face. Martinez charges at Baszler, but Baszler counters with a kick to the face. Martinez comes right back with the fisherman’s buster, but doesn’t make the cover immediately. Martinez eventually gets the cover, but Baszler kicks out at two.
Martinez gets to her feet and delivers a side suplex and then another. Martinez delivers a third suplex and then goes for the fisherman’s buster again, but Baszler counters. Baszler picks Martinez up and slams her down and locks in the rear naked choke and Martinez taps out.
Winner: Shayna Baszler.
After the match, Martinez and Baszler share a hug. Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, and Sara Amato are in the ring and they present Baszler with the celebratory roses and Stephanie raises her hand in the air.

We take a look at the next two competitors, Toni Storm and Kairi Sane.

Match #2: Tournament Semifinal Match – Kairi Sane vs. Toni Storm
Storm applies a wrist-lock and Sane turns it into one of her own and takes Storm down to the mat. Storm counters into a pin attempt, but Sane quickly gets out. Sane and Storm stare down and they lock up again. Sane goes behind for a waist-lock, but Storm counters and sends Sane down to the mat with a wrist-lock take down. Sane fights back with some forearm shots and sends Storm to the corner. Sane charges, but Storm elevates her to the apron. Sane comes back with a shoulder to the midsection and comes off the ropes, but Storm moves out of the way. Sane runs the ropes and takes Storm down with a dropkick. Sane goes for the cover, but Storm quickly kicks out. Storm takes the advantage right back and slams Sane down to the mat. Storm goes for the cover, but Sane kicks out at two.
Storm works over Sane’s elbow and takes her to the corner. Storm connects with a few European upeprcuts and drops Sane to the mat. Storm goes for the cover, but Sane kicks out at two. Sane fights back and sends Storm into the ropes and charges, but Storm moves out of the way and Sane goes to the outside. Storm comes out after her, but Sane pulls Storm’s leg out from under her and Storm hits back-first on the ring apron. Sane climbs up top and connects with a cross-body and both women are down on the outside.
Sane tosses Storm back into the ring and goes for the cover, but Storm kicks out at two. Sane applies a Boston Crab submission in the middle of the ring, but Storm gets free and drops Sane with a release German suplex. Storm connects with the hip attack in the corner and goes for a second, but Sane counters with a spear. Both women fight back to their feet and they exchange right hands. Storm gets the upperhand and drops Sane with a modified muscle buster and goes for the cover, but Sane kicks out at two. Storm keeps the advantage going and locks in the arm bar submission in the middle of the ring, but Sane fights out and counters with a roll-up. Storm kicks out at two and drops Sane with a forearm shot. Storm goes up top and connects with the leg drop across Sane’s back.
Storm grabs Sane, but Sane counters with a back fist. Sane applies a modified crab submission down on the mat and then goes up top. Sane connects with the elbow drop and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Kairi Sane.
After the match, Sane and Storm hug in the ring and then Stephanie McMahon, Triple H, and Sara Amato present Sane with the celebratory roses.

Shayna Baszler appears on the stage next to Sane. Sane extends her hand for a handshake, but Baszler doesn’t accept. Baszler sticks her fist into Sane’s face, and Sane returns the favor and they stare down as the episode comes to a close.
