NXT TakeOver: Orlando Recap

Apr 1, 2017 - by Michael Riba

Charly Caruso, Nigel McGuiness, and Sam Roberts welcome us to the show and then we see shots of Asuka and Bobby Roode arriving to the arena earlier today. We then see Kayla Braxton outside with members of the WWE Universe.

We then see footage of SAnitY attacking No Way Jose at WrestleMania Axxess earlier today. They smash Jose’s ankle with the steel steps and we see him getting stretchered out. McGuinness says Jose will not compete tonight and says William Regal has given Tye Dillinger, Roderick Strong, and Ruby Riot the chance to find a partner, or they will have to compete in a handicap match.

We see the video hype package for the NXT Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Match, which will see The Authors of Pain defending their titles against #DIY and The Revival. McGuinness says two men will start the match and they can tag anyone on the apron and once one man is eliminated his whole team is eliminated. Roberts says he believes #DIY and The Revival will join together to eliminated The Authors of Pain and then settle it themselves. McGuinness says that will not happen.

We see the video hype package for the match between Andrade “Cien” Almas and the debuting Aleister Black. Roberts says most everyone knows Aleister Black as Tommy End. Roberts says since Black has shown up, it has been like a completely different man. McGuinness says he has known Black since 2005, but there was always something about him. He says the man that was in Black’s mind is now out in the open and he is a very dangerous man. Charly says we can’t sleep on Almas and he has been great in NXT as of late. Roberts says Almas seems entitled and full of himself. McGuinness says Almas has fun in the ring and takes it seriously and he will be ready to go tonight.

We see the video hype package for the match between Asuka and Ember Moon. Billie Kay and Peyton Royce have joined the panel. They mock Charly Caruso’s dress. She brings up that they want Ember Moon’s Eclipse banned. Billie says it’s a dangerous move and definitely should be banned. Roberts says there is no reason to ban a move just because Billie got hurt. McGuinness says Roberts has never been in the ring and he doesn’t know how dangerous it is. Charly says Asuka has been the champion for a year and Billie and Peyton mock her again. They mock Asuka and her choice of attire. Charly asks them who they would rather see win. They say it doesn’t matter who wins, because they are going to be the next women’s champion together.

We take a look at the video hype package for the match between Bobby Roode and Shinsuke Nakamura. We see the new championship belts being delivered to William Regal’s office and Roberts says the fans want the era of Shinsuke to continue and McGuinness says keep the Roode train going as the preshow comes to a close.
