3/15/17 NXT Recap: Authors of Pain, Nikki Cross in Action; Roode vs. Ohno for the Title

NXT opens with a video hype package for the main event tonight, which will feature Bobby Roode defending the NXT Championship against Kassius Ohno. We then see the usual NXT opening video and then we go into The Venue at the University of Central Florida where Tom Phillips, Percy Watson, and Nigel McGuinness welcome us to the show.

Match #1: – The Ealy Brothers (Gabriel and Uriel) vs. The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) (w/Paul Ellering)
Gabriel and Rezar start the match for their teams. Gabriel takes Rezar to the corner and tags in Uriel. They double-team Rezar and slam him into the corner. Uriel gets sent off the ropes by Rezar, but counters with a boot to the midsection. Rezar comes right back and drops Uriel with a clothesline and then delivers a headbutt to Gabriel. Akam tags in and he and Rezar slam the Ealy Brothers together with the Super COllider and then drop Uriel with the Last Chapter and Akam gets the pin fall.
Winners: The Authors of Pain.
After the match, Ellering grabs a microphone. He tells The Revival that they are the next name in his “Book of Destruction.” He says they claim to be the best tag team in the world. He says he created the algorithm for greatness in tag team wrestling. He says The Authors of Pain are his ticket and they are soon to be a dynasty. #DIY’s music hits and Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa come to the ring. Ciampa says he has no idea what “algorithm” means and Gargano agrees. Gargano says everyone knows if there is anyone who can finally defeat the Authors, it’s #DIY. Ciampa says The Revival saved the Authors and Gargano says they deserve a fair championship rematch. The Revival’s music hits and Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder come to the stage. Dawson asks the Authors how they feel after the Shatter Machine a couple weeks ago. Wilder says they sat on the sidelines for NXT TakeOver: San Antonio. Wilder says they are not going to watch the division that they created from the sidelines. Dawson says they are the MVP’s of NXT. Dawson says they are the greatest tag team of all time and William Regal’s music hits. He says we have a dilemma in the NXT Tag Team Division. He says we have three teams who are all deserving and they all want to fight each other. He announces a Triple Threat Elimination Match between The Authors of Pain, #DIY, and The Revival for NXT TakeOver: Orlando.

We are reminded of tonight’s main event: Bobby Roode vs. Kassius Ohno for the NXT Championship, where the winner will defend the title against Shinsuke Nakamura at NXT TakeOver: Orlando. We also see that Nikki Cross will be in action tonight.

We see a vignette for Tucker Knight and Otis Dozovic, collectively known as Heavy Machinery, who will officially debut soon.

We see that Motionless in White’s “Loud” will be one of the official theme songs for NXT TakeOver: Orlando. We are then reminded that Asuka will defend the NXT Women’s Championship against Ember Moon at the event, and then we see a prerecorded video hype package focusing on Asuka.

Match #2 – Macey Estrella vs. Nikki Cross (w/Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe, and Killian Dain)
Nikki backs Macey into the corner and delivers a couple of knee shots and then slams her down to the mat. Macey punches Nikki in the throat, but Nikki snaps and beats down Macey on the mat. Nikki drops Macey with a swinging neck-breaker. She delivers another one and Young tells Nikki “you know what to do.” Nikki delivers a third and a fourth and a fifth swinging neck-breaker. Nikki grabs Macey and delivers a sixth neck-breaker and gets the pin fall.
Winner: Nikki Cross.
After the match, Tye Dillinger and No Way Jose attack SAnitY. SAnitY gets the advantage and leaves Dillinger and Jose lying in the ring.

We are reminded again that Bobby Roode will defend the NXT Championship against Kassius Ohno in tonight’s main event.

We see another promo of the man in the church. He says we need to allow ourselves to fade to black.

We see that Baroness’ “Shock Me” is one of the official theme songs for NXT TakeOver: Orlando.

We take a look back at last week when Billie Kay was injured during Ember Moon’s Eclipse finisher. We see that Andrea DeMarco tried to get an update on Billie Kay, but Andrade “Cien” Almas was seen pushing around Ho Ho Lun. Oney Lorcan breaks it up and then we see that Almas will go one-on-one with Lorcan next week. We also see that SAnitY will take on Tye Dillinger, No Way Jose, and Roderick Strong next week.

We see Kassius Ohno backstage. He says he feels so much better than last time and he is going to bring the NXT Championship where it belongs and then he will talk about success and failure. We then see Bobby Roode backstage. He says Ohno doesn’t deserve to be in the ring with him. He says Ohno proved he was a failure last time he was in NXT. Roode says he is going to prove to everyone in the world why this is his NXT.

We see Shinsuke Nakamura watching the match backstage.

Match #3 – NXT Championship Match: Bobby Roode (c) vs. Kassius Ohno
Ohno goes for a quick roll-up, but Roode kicks out at two. Ohno gets a back-slide this time, but Roode kicks out again. Roode backs into the corner and then rolls out of the ring. Roode gets back into the ring at a seven count and goes for a kick to Ohno’s midsection. Ohno blocks it and applies a side headlock. Roode sends Ohno off the ropes, but Ohno takes him down with a shoulder block and then a big boot. Ohno sends Roods to the corner, but Roode counters with a kick. Roode tosses Ohno into the corner and delivers a few chops. Ohno turns it around and delivers a big chop of his own. Ohno delivers a big right hand and then drops him with a back body drop. Ohno clotheslines Roode over the top rope and out to the floor as we head to a break.
We’re back and Roode drops Ohno with a lariat clothesline in the ring. Roode stomps down on Ohno and then chokes him with his boot. Roode chokes Ohno over the middle rope now and then grabs him by the hair. Roode slams Ohno in the corner and then delivers a right hand to the midsection. Roode sends Ohno to the opposite corner and delivers a big clothesline that drops Ohno in the middle of the ring. Roode goes up top and clubs Ohno in the side of the head. Roode goes for a cover, but Ohno kicks out at two. Roode beats down Ohno on the mat, but Ohno begins to fight back. Ohno connects with some right hands, but Roode turns it right aorund with a back elbow. Roode drops a knee and goes for the cover, but Ohno kicks out at two as wee see Nakamura still watching backstage. Roode applies a headlock down on the mat. Ohno counters with a jaw-breaker and then sends Roode into the ropes. Roode tries to send Ohno to the floor, but Ohno holds on and kicks Roode in the face. Ohno goes to send Roode into the corner, but Roode counters and sends Ohno out to the floor as we head to a break.
We’re back and Roode is in control. He goes for the Glorious DDT, but Ohno counters with a release vertical suplex. Ohno drops Rode with a couple right hands and then drops him with a big boot. Ohno goes for the cover, but Roode kicks out at two. Ohno goes for a splash on Roode, but Roode gets his knees up. Roode hits a back-stabber and goes for the cover, but Ohno kicks out at two. Roode clotheslines Ohno in the corner, but Ohno comes back with another kick. Ohno gets on the top rope and delivers a stunner to Roode. Ohno goes for the cover, but Roode kicks out at two. Ohno goes after Roode, but Roode counters with a spine-buster. Roode goes for the cover, but Ohno kicks out at two. Roode goes for the Glorious DDT, but Ohno counters with a spinning discus elbow. Roode rolls to the floor, but Ohno grabs him and tosses him back into the ring. Ohno splashes down onto Roode and goes for the cover, but Roode kicks out at two. Ohno exposes his elbow and goes for the discus elbow again, but Roode counters and drapes him over the top rope. Roode delivers the Glorious DDT and gets the pin fall.
Winner and still NXT Champion: Bobby Roode.
After the match, Roode stands tall with his title as Shinsuke Nakamura continues to watch from backstage as NXT comes to a close.
