This Day In Wrestling History – November 27th
1949 – Lou Thesz is awarded the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, after previous champion Orville Brown is forced to vacate the title. Brown had suffered career-ending injuries in an automobile accident, earlier in the month.
1982 – Bad Leroy Brown wins the vacant NWA Television Championship after winning a 20-man Battle Royal.
1986 – NWA Starrcade ’86: The Skywalkers is held in dual locations, Atlanta and Greensboro, NC. The main event in Greensboro saw The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) win a Steel Cage Match, vs The Anderson Brothers (Ole & Arn), to retain the NWA World Tag Team Championship. The Atlanta main event was a Title vs. Title Match; Ric Flair (NWA World Heavyweight Champion) and Nikita Koloff (NWA United States Champion) fight to a double disqualification. Dusty Rhodes wins the NWA World Television Championship after defeating Tully Blanchard in a First Blood Match. Full results of Starrcade ’86 can be found here.
1991 – WWF Survivor Series is held in Detroit in front of 17,500 fans. It is this event where The Undertaker becomes the WWF Champion for the first time, defeating Hulk Hogan. Full results of Survivor Series ’91 can be found here.
1992 – In Smoky Mountain Wrestling, The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (Robert Gibson and Ricky Morton) defeat The Heavenly Bodies (Stan Lane and Prichard) in a Texas Death Match, to win the SMW Tag Team Championship. The Heavenly Bodies had just won the titles from The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express the night before, winning a Falls Count Anywhere Match.
1994 – El Satanico defeats Apollo Dantes, to win the CMLL World Middleweight Championship.
1995 – In the Monday Night Wars, WCW Monday Nitro (2.5 TV rating) edges out WWF Monday Night Raw (2.3 rating).
1999 – Well-renowned trainer Hiro Matsuda passes away at the age of 62, after a lengthy battle with colon cancer.
2000 – In the Monday Night Wars, WWF Raw Is War (5.0 TV rating) beats WCW Monday Nitro (2.4 rating).
2005 – WWE Survivor Series is held in Detroit in front of 15,000 fans. Triple H defeats Ric Flair in a Last Man Standing Match. John Cena defeats Kurt Angle, to retain the WWE Championship; Daivari served as the special guest referee. Full results can be found here.
2011 – At Pro Wrestling NOAH Great Voyage ’11 in Tokyo Vol. 4, Katsuhiko Nakajima defeats Ricky Marvin, to win the GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship.
2015 – In a Texas Death Match, John Wayne Murdoch defeats Reed Bentley, to win the IWA Mid-South Heavyweight Championship.
