In Memoriam

The wrestling world has lost 3 personalities on this day:

Firstly, in 2005, one-time WWWF US Tag Team Champion Chris Tolos died of cancer at the age of 75. Tolos was a regular in Canada in the 50′s before venturing south of the border in the following decade. He & brother John became 1 of the best tag teams of their time, some would say of all time, winning championships all across North America. It is said that Tolos could have become a breakout singles star, but he chose to stay near his home in Hamilton, Ontario to take care of his aging mother & disabled sister

Secondly, former AJPW, WWF and WCW Tag Team Champion Brian ‘Crush’ Adams died of a suspected drug overdose (the official cause has never been made public) aged 44. Adams 1st discovered wrestling while stationed in Japan with the US Army & later trained under Antonio Inoki. He returned to the US in 1986 to compete for Pacific Northwest Wrestling in Portland, where he became a 2-time tag & singles champion. This PNW run sandwiched a brief WWF spell as Crush, the 3rd member of Demolition. In 1992, Adams left PNW for good to return to the WWF, this time competing as ‘Kona Crush’, a surfing Hawaiian character. He was with the promotion for 5 years, but failed to achieve anything of note (short of being jailed for buying steroids), & left the company in 1997, in protest to the Montreal Screwjob. The following year, he turned up in WCW, debuting as a member of the nWo before becoming The KISS Demon & later, one half of the successful KroniK tag team, who won 2 WCW Tag Team Titles. Upon the buyout of WCW, KroniK began appearing in the WWF, but were released towards the end of the year after ‘a series of lackluster performances’. Adams continued to compete in Japan before a back injury forced his in-ring retirement in 2003. He worked as a bodyguard for Randy Savage during his attempted musical career & also had plans to open a franchise of Marc Mero’s BodySlam health club before his death

Finally, in 2010, 3-time World Tag Team Champion Lance Cade real name Lance McNaught, was found dead of heart failure, aged just 29. Cade trained at the Shawn Michaels Wrestling Academy in San Antonio alongside Bryan Danielson, now known as WWE’s Daniel Bryan. In 1999, he was sent to Japan for further training at FMW, during which time he faced such names as Balls Mahoney & Super Crazy. In 2001, he was signed to a WWF development deal and was initially assigned to Memphis, before quickly relocating to HWA. During the Invasion angle, there was a similar scenario being played out in HWA, featuring lower card WCW wrestlers facing WWF developmental competitors. Cade joined the ‘Invasion’, teaming with Mike Sanders to win the HWA Tag Team Titles before the angle abruptly ended. In 2003, Cade was reassigned again, this time to OVW, only to debut on the main roster in June of that year. He initially teamed with Mark Jindrak before an injury forced him off TV for over a year. In August 2005, he re-debuted, this team teaming with Trevor Murdoch and over the next 3 years, won 3 WWE Tag Team Titles. In 2008, after a brief angle with Chris Jericho, Cade was released from his WWE contract amid rumors of drug abuse. He competed across North America & Japan for the rest of his career, including another brief spell in WWE developmental before being found dead at his home. The former Shawn Michaels Academy (now the Texas Wrestling Academy) held a tribute show in his honor
