5/14 ROH War of The World Results from NYC

May 15, 2016 - by Steve Gerweck

Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling’s War of the Worlds Tour ended tonight in NYC. According to ROH’s website, “injuries and the Bullet Club have forced changes to be made for the announced card”. As reported by the Wrestling Observer, both Young Bucks are injured, Nick with bruised, possibly broken ribs and Matt with a swollen hand and Naito is dealing with an elbow injury as well as a fever. Despite the nagging injuries, both Matt Jackson and Naito competed at the event.

Dalton Castle vs Moose vs Lio Rush vs Michael Elgin: Castle wins by pinning Lio Rush.

reDragon (Fish and O’Reilly) vs ANX (Kenny King and Rhett Titus): redDragon picks up the win after hitting Chasing the Dragon.

Silas Young vs. Kushida: Kushida wins by kimura lock tap out.

Motor City Machine Guns vs Trent and Gedo: MCMG win the match after hitting their neckbreaker/high cross body block combo finisher, Skull and Bones.

Jushin “Thunder” Liger & the Briscoes vs Bullet Club (Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa & Adam Page): Liger and the Briscoes score the victory over a modified Bullet Club. Liger had one of the biggest pops of the night.

Cedric Alexander vs Donovan Dijak w/ Prince Nana: In his last match with Ring of Honor, Cedric Alexander goes out on his back against Dijack. Crowd was hot for Alexander all match and showered him with “Thank You Cedric” chants. A Shame to see him go, but with rumored involvement with Evolve and the WWE Cruiserweight Classic, his future looks brighter than it ever has.

ROH WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP – Addiction vs War Machine: War Machine was in control until Christopher Daniels ended consecutive corner splashes by pulling referee Todd Sinclair in the corner. After The Addiction’s antics, Sinclair DQs them, so War Machine wins the match, but not the titles.

Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Reborn Matt Sydal: Tanahashi was super over with the New York City crowd. Tons of amazing spots and high-flying action here. Tanahashi predictably goes over Sydal in this one by hitting the High Fly Flow, a frog splash from the top, to pick up the victory.

Tetsuya Naito vs ACH: Naito is a real professional. Despite reports that he is suffering from a lingering elbow injury and had high fevers days before the event, this was the match of the night. Naito wins after hitting Destino, a flipping reverse DDT, on ACH for the pinfall victory.

Bullet Club (Adam Cole & Matt Jackson) vs “Rainmaker” Kazuchika Okada & Tomohiro Ishii vs ROH World Champion Jay Lethal & Roderick Strong: Great match between these six men. Nick Jackson was at ringside with the Bullet Club for the match. Matt hit a suicide dive, then Cole faked one and did his Adam Cole Bay-Bay schtick. Lethal still worked heel this match despite being attacked by the Bullet Club at Global Wars. Team ROH won the match after Roddy pinned Ishii. Excellent match with ROH actually going over to end the tour.

Overall, this was a fun show, despite not having the World or Television titles defended. Now that War of the Worlds is over, hopefully ROH refocuses on developing their own stars and storylines.
