5/24/13 Friday Night Smackdown Recap
Smackdown kicks off with The Miz, Fandango, and Summer Rae in the ring for MizTV. The Miz pronounces Fandango’s name incorrectly, and Fandango interrupts him and tells him how to say it. Miz does his “Really?” bit and then shows footage of Fandango dancing during the tag team match on Monday’s Raw. Miz tells Fandango that he ego is more obnoxious than his name. Fandango says if anyone gets close to Summer again, he will dance all over their face. Fandango brings up Miz’s ego, and Miz says he knows he has a big ego, but he knows when the bell rings it’s all about business. The Miz compares Fandango’s attire to a bag of Skittles and congratulates him on being the new Fruity Pebbles. Fandango tells Miz that he bores him, and Wade Barrett’s music hits and the Intercontinental Champion comes to the ring. Barrett says he wants a word with both of them, but will start off with the ballerina. Barrett tells Fandango that he has never seen more of a waste of skin than him and blames him for their loss on Monday. He says if Fandango ever crosses him again, he will break all of his teeth and make people forget his name. Fandango corrects him on the pronunciation, and The Miz interrupts. He reminds Barrett that he is defending the title against him tonight, that he beat him for the title at WrestleMania, and that he made him tap out on Raw. Barrett clocks Miz with an elbow and they brawl in the ring as Fandango and Summer Rae exit and a referee gets into the ring.
Match #1: WWE Intercontinental Championship Match – Wade Barrett © vs. The Miz
Miz fights out of a headlock by Barrett and converts a back-slide for a two count. Barrett charges at Miz, but Miz takes him down with a flapjack. Barrett comes back and kicks Miz in the midsection and then places him on the top rope. Barrett clubs Miz on the back a few times and then kicks him off the ropes. Barrett goes for the cover, but Miz kicks out at two. Barrett gets Miz in a headlock, but Miz fights out and delivers a running knee lift and big boot to take Barrett down. Fandango and Summer Rae dance at ringside as Barrett connects with the Winds of Change. Barrett goes for the cover, but Miz kicks out at two. Miz rolls Barrett up, but only gets a two count. Miz puts a boot in Barrett’s face and dropkicks Fandango on the outside. Barrett charges at Miz, but Miz ducks under and rolls Barrett up for another two count. Miz takes out Barrett’s knee and sets up for the Figure Four, but Barrett kicks him into the ropes. Miz kicks Barrett away, but Fandango kicks Miz in the head, causing the disqualification.
Winner via Disqualification: The Miz.
After the match, Fandango and Barrett beat down and stomp away on Miz, before Barrett connects with the Bull Hammer Elbow on Fandango. Barrett grabs the title and leaves Fandango and Miz lying in the ring.
We see Team Hell No backstage. Kane says he knows Bryan is upset, but they are still a team. Kane says they lost the titles and he lost on Raw, and Bryan says he knows Kane is saying he only lost because Bryan wasn’t there to help him. Bryan says he is not the wink link and walks away.
We take a look back to Raw where Ryback said he and John Cena will square off in an Ambulance Match at Payback.
Match #2: Daniel Bryan (w/Kane) vs. Jack Swagger (w/Zeb Colter)
Bryan goes right after Swagger and delivers a series of right hands before clotheslining Swagger to the floor. Bryan follows up with a suicide dive onto Swagger on the outside. Bryan kicks Swagger in the chest repeatedly against the barricade. Bryan tosses Swagger back into the ring and connects with a dropkick from the top rope. Bryan goes for the cover, but Swagger kicks out at two. Swagger comes back and takes Bryan down with a clothesline and then slams him into the corner. Swagger drives his knee into Bryan’s midsection in the corner, and then charges and smashes Bryan in the corner. Swagger headbutts Bryan and then beats him down in the corner. Swagger tosses Bryan into the opposite corner, but Bryan gets free and takes Swagger down with a forearm shiver. Bryan dropkicks Swagger in the corner and then kicks him in the chest. Bryan backs away and delivers another dropkick to Swagger. Bryan goes for the cover, but Swagger kicks out at two. Bryan kicks Swagger in the chest again, but Swagger grabs Bryan’s leg and picks him up. Swagger slams Bryan down to the mat and goes for a cover, but Bryan kicks out at two. Swagger goes for the Gut-wrench power bomb, but Bryan reverses and goes for the No Lock. Swagger rolls through and applies the Patriot Lock. Bryan rolls through and gets a two count. Bryan charges at Swagger, but Swagger puts his knee into Bryan’s midsection. Swagger goes for the Swagger Bomb, but Bryan gets his feet up. Bryan kicks Swagger in the head. Bryan stomps away on Swagger and applies the No Lock, and Swagger taps out.
Winner: Daniel Bryan.
After the match, Bryan applies the No Lock again and Kane pulls him off of Swagger. Bryan shoves Kane out of the way and leaves the ring.
We see Damien Sandow in the ring with Matt Striker. Sheamus comes out to interrupt the segment. Sandow and Sheamus have words.
Match #3: Chris Jericho vs. The Big Show
Show controls most of the match early on. Both guys go to the outside, where Jericho catches Show with a Codebreaker. Jericho rolls back into the ring, but Show fails to get back in before the ten count.
Winner via countout: Chris Jericho
Paul Heyman and the newest Paul Heyman Guy, Curtis Axel, come to the ring. Heyman talks about his new guy and expanding his brand. They brag about taking Triple H out on Raw.
Match #4: Curtis Axel (w/Paul Heyman) vs. Sin Cara
The match was controlled throughout by Curtis Axel, and he gets the win.
Winner: Curtis Axel
Match #5: WWE United States Championship Match – Dean Ambrose © vs. Kofi Kingston
They tie up and Kingston sends Ambrose off the ropes, but Ambrose takes him down with a shoulder tackle. Ambrose runs the ropes, but Kingston takes him down with a dropkick. Kingston goes for the cover, but Ambrose kicks out at one. Ambrose slams Kingston into the corner and then drops an elbow. Ambrose goes for the cover, but Kingston kicks out at one. Ambrose drops a knee over Kingston’s throat. Ambrose goes after Kingston, but Kingston rolls him up for a one count. Kingston takes Ambrose down with a couple of clotheslines and a dropkick, but Ambrose gets back up and tosses him in the corner. Ambrose goes after him, but Kingston gets his boot up. Kingston comes off the ropes and sledges Ambrose down to the mat and goes for the cover, but Ambrose kicks out at two. Kingston goes up top, but Ambrose stops him. Kingston kicks Ambrose away, and then Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins run in from the crowd. Kingston kicks Rollins away and then connects with a cross-body on Reigns. Kingston gets back into the ring, but Rollins, Reigns, and Ambrose begin a three-on-one beat down, causing the disqualification.
Winner by disqualification: Kofi Kingston.
After the match, the beat down continues until Randy Orton and Sheamus run out to make the save for Kingston. Teddy Long comes out and makes a Six-Man Tag Team Match that will start right now.
Match #6: Six-Man Tag Team Match: Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins (The Shield) vs. Kofi Kingston, Randy Orton, and Sheamus
Reigns has Sheamus against the ropes and gives him a shot to the midsection. Reigns sends Sheamus off the ropes, but Sheamus reverses and slams Reigns down to the mat. Sheamus goes for the cover, but Reigns kicks out at two. Reigns delivers an elbow shot to Sheamus’ head and tags in Rollins. Rollins gets into the ring, but Sheamus nails him with a hip toss. Sheamus tags in Orton, who kicks Rollins in the midsection and tosses him in the corner. Orton delivers fifteen right hands to Rollins and an uppercut before going for the cover. Rollins kicks out at one. Orton wrenches Rollins’ arm and tags in Kingston, who comes off the top rope and sledges Rollins’ arm. Kingston kicks Rollins in the face and goes for the cover, but Rollins kicks out at one. Kingston applies a submission down on the mat, but Rollins gets to his feet. Kingston drops him with a side-Russian leg sweep and then connects with a cross-body. Kingston goes for the cover, but Rollins kicks out at two. Kingston takes Rollins to the corner and tags in Orton. Orton delivers a dropkick to Rollins and goes for the cover, but Rollins kicks out at two. Rollins counters with a jaw-breaker and tags in Ambrose. Orton takes Ambrose down with a clothesline and then a suplex. Orton stomps on Ambrose’s hand and delivers an uppercut. Orton takes Ambrose to the corner and tags in Sheamus, who stomps Ambrose down to the mat in the corner. Sheamus connects with a neck-breaker and goes for the cover, but Ambrose kicks out at one. Ambrose grabs Sheamus and takes him to the corner and tags in Rollins. Rollins delivers a series of right hands to Sheamus. Rollins comes off the ropes, but Sheamus catches him and sets him on the apron, ready to deliver his vintage ten clubbing shots, but Ambrose and Reigns pull Rollins to the floor.
Ambrose has Sheamus down on the mat, but Sheamus gets to his feet. Sheamus goes to the ropes, but Ambrose catches him with a knee lift and tags in Reigns. Reigns stomps Sheamus down to the mat, but Sheamus kicks him away and knocks Rollins and Ambrose down to the floor. Reigns charges at Sheamus, but he moves and Reigns goes shoulder-first into the ring post. Sheamus tags Orton and Reigns tags Rollins. Orton takes Rollins down with a couple of clotheslines and a power slam. Orton drops Ambrose with a power slam as well. Orton takes Rollins to the ropes and delivers the middle-rope DDT. Orton back away and Rollins escapes to the outside. Orton goes after him, but Reigns nails him in the head and Orton falls to the floor. Rollins and Orton get back into the ring and Rollins goes for the cover, but Orton kicks out at one. Rollins tags in Ambrose, who stomps away on Orton as we see Reigns walking gingerly on his ankle. Ambrose gets Orton in a front-face lock and delivers a couple of right hands before going for the cover, but Orton kicks out at two. Ambrose takes Orton to the corner and tags in Rollins. Rollins takes Orton to another corner and delivers a series of right hands. The referee backs Rollins away, and Orton kicks him in the midsection. Rollins comes back and slams Orton’s head into the middle turnbuckle. Rollins gets Orton on the top rope, but Orton reverses and delivers a superplex. Orton tags Sheamus and Rollins tags Ambrose. Sheamus takes Ambrose down with a few clotheslines, and then spears Reigns in the corner and spears Ambrose in the middle of the ring. Sheamus drops Ambrose with the rolling senton and then delivers the ten clubbing shots to Rollins. Sheamus clotheslines Ambrose and delivers the Brogue Kick to Rollins. Sheamus picks up Ambrose for White Noise, but Reigns takes him down with a Spear. Reigns rolls to the outside, but Orton drops him with an RKO. Sheamus tags Kingston, who connects with a cross-body to Ambrose. Kingston goes for the cover, but Ambrose kicks out at two. Kingston sets up for Trouble in Paradise, but Rollins grabs his leg, allowing Ambrose to deliver a dropkick. Ambrose delivers the face-buster and gets the pin fall.
Winners: The Shield.
After the match, The Shield stands tall in the ring as Smackdown comes to a close.
