– Begnaud began his career on the southern indies in 1997, working under a variety of names, including ‘Rod Begnaud’, ‘Redd Dogg Begnaud’ and ‘Notorious DOG’
– On November 27, 1998, Redd Dogg defeated Action Jackson and Kit Carson in a triangle match for the NWA Texas Heavyweight Title
– On January 8, 1999, Redd Dogg defeated Bullman Downs to retain the NWA Texas Heavyweight Title
– Begnaud defeated Kevin Northcutt on July 29, 1999 in Dallas, TX to regain the NWA Texas Heavyweight title.
– On February 24, 2000, Redd Dogg defeated The New Dr X to win the vacant LCW Heavyweight Title
– On April 2, Redd Dogg defeated Mike Foxx to retain the LCW Heavyweight Title
