Year End Awards

It is time to hand out the 3rd annual “Between The Ropes” year end awards. The trophies go out as follows:

Wrestler of the Year. Winner - Triple H. Helmsley truly raised his “game” in 2000, easily emerging as the business’s top heel. 1999 Winner - The Rock. Honorable mention: Kurt Angle

Tag Team of the Year. Winners - Edge & Christian. The Canadian duo captured five, count ‘em, five WWF World Tag Team titles in 2000, and according to the tandem, that “reeks of awesomeness!” 1999 Winners - The Rock & Sock Connection (The Rock and Mankind). Honorable mention: Dudley Boys

Most Improved. Winner - Justin Credible. The Impact Players (Credible and Lance Storm) broke up in the spring, however, that didn’t slow down Credible. 1999 Winner - Triple H. Honorable mention: Christian

Rookie of the Year. Winner - Trish Stratus. The Canadian beauty arrived in the WWF in March, and quickly formed the tag team T & A. Her matches proved she is more than just “eye candy.” 1999 Winner - Shane McMahon. Honorable mention: Mike Sanders

Women of the Year. Winner - Lita. While Chyna’s gets the most airtime of any female performer in the business, Lita used her television appearances to prove she had what it takes to be a manager and a top-notch wrestler. 1999 Winner - Chyna. Honorable mention: Chyna

Most Underrated Wrestler. Winner - Mike Awesome. WCW found themselves a main event-er when they signed Awesome away from ECW in April, yet, has not given him the proper push to prove it. 1999 Winner - Blitzkrieg. Honorable mention: Lance Storm

Most Overrated Wrestler. Winner - Kevin Nash. Getting worse daily. 1999 Winner - The Big Show. Honorable mention: Goldberg

Feud of the year: Winner - The Rock vs. Triple H. 1999 Winner - Austin vs. McMahon. Honorable mention: The Hardy Boyz vs. Edge & Christian

Promotion of the Year. Winner - WWF. Hands down winner. 1999 Winner - WWF. Honorable mention: none

Pay-Per-View of the Year. Winner - Summerslam. 1999 Winner - WCW’s Spring Stampede. Honorable mention: Royal Rumble

Match of the Year. Winner - Edge & Christian vs. The Hardy Boyz vs. The Dudley Boyz (TLC Summerslam match). It is a match that I’ll never forget. 1999 Winner - The Hardy Boys vs. Edge & Christian - ladder match. Honorable mention: Triple H vs. Chris Jericho from “Raw.”

Television Show of the Year. Winner - Smackdown! While Raw and Smackdown! are equal “A” shows, Smackdown! gets the edge due to the taped production enhancements. 1999 Winner - Raw Is War. Honorable mention: Raw Is War

Gimmick/Angle of the Year: Winner- RTC. 1999 Winner - The Power’s that be. Honorable mention: Austin’s hit and run driver angle.

Worst Gimmick of the Year: Winner - Mideon as the “naked guy.” Unfortunately, an image I can’t get out of my mind. 1999 Winner - Chaz. Honorable mention: Pat Patterson’s skid marked underwear.
