Funk Tries to Ruin This ‘November’
Extreme Championship Wrestling presented its sixth annual “November to Remember” pay-per-view from New Orleans, Louisiana on Sunday. As Joey Styles opened the show, hardcore legend, and Professor of Funk U, Terry Funk made his way to the ring. Funk was upset that he did not receive an invitational to the “showcase of the year” from ECW Owner Paul Heyman, and bad mouthed Tommy Dreamer. Funk’s verbal assault brought out Dreamer, yet Terry’s profanity continued on.
In the opening bout, the Blue Meanie and Super Nova defeated Roadkill and Danny Doring when Meanie delivered a “blue light special” on Doring. During the match, Terry Funk again made his way down to ring side, this time taking over the time keeper’s table. After the pinfall, Funk attacked both Meanie and Super Nova with pieces of a table Funk busted up on the outside of the ring. Paul Heyman appeared and tried to reason with Funk, but he was in no such mood.
Tommy Rogers used a Tomikaze to beat FBI member Tracy Smothers. The real action took place after the match. Little Guido and Smother appeared to be arguing, only to again attack Rogers. Chris Chetti, who was in Rogers’s corner, made the save, and actually scored a pin over Tommy Rich, who was in Smother’s corner. Mabel, wearing a FBI shirt, appeared and attacked Chetti with a leg drop. Little Spike Dudley made save. Spike was immediately manhandled and set up on the table. Dudley moved as Mabel went through the table. Spike hit an Acid Drop on Ulf Hermann and followed that up with an Acid Drop on Mabel landing on Hermann. Rogers and Chetti counted the pinfall.
In the next match, Lance Storm, with Tammy Lynn Bytch in his corner, met Jerry Lynn. Tammy Lynn Sytch (formerly Sunny in the WWF) and Mikey Whipwreck served as special guest referees. Sytch wore a very revealing referee’s top and skirt, and was stationed inside the ring. Whipwreck would direct traffic on the outside. Sytch favored Lynn, and counted very slowly when Storm attempted to pin Lynn. Sytch, who stripped her down to a two piece bikini, escorted Bytch into the ring. Whipwreck gave both Sytch and Bytch “whippersnappers.” Lynn went for a small package, but Whipwreck reserved it, and counted Lynn out and declared Storm the winner.
Terry Funk apologized to Joey Styles for his actions, and decided he was leaving the building, as well as the ECW.
The four time ECW world tag team champions Dudley boys lost their tag team gold to Balls Mahoney and former FMW brass knux champion Masato Tanaka. Former tag team champions Sabu and Rob Van Dam attacked the Dudley’s, leading to a double frog splash and cover.
Tommy Dreamer and his mystery partner, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, defeated the team of Justin Credible and Jack Victory. The match involved golf clubs, chairs, baseball bats, shopping carts, and a ladder. In the end, Roberts hit Credible with a DDT onto the ladder to score the fall. Terry Funk once again came down
the aisle and complained about how Dreamer picked Roberts instead of Funk. Dreamer repeatedly said, "You didn't want to be my partner." Tommy got in Funk's face and allowed Funk to attack him. Terry continued to hit Dreamer with the microphone.
In the main event, Rob Van Dam, Sabu, and Taz beat Bam Bam Bigelow, Chris Candido, and Shane Douglas. Taz tried to force ECW champion to submit; just then Sabu comes off the top rope with an Arabian Face Buster that hits both Taz and Douglas. Sabu pinned Douglas. After the match, Sabu and Taz exchange words.
The next ECW pay-per-view is January 10, 1999, from Orlando, Florida.
