Interview with Terri Gold

Interview conducted: November 30, 2000

SG> How did you get started with WOW?
TG> I have watched wrestling for a while and I saw something about tryouts for an all women’s wrestling organization. At first I was alittle skeptical, but then I went for it and I am so happy I did. It has been the most amazing experience of my life. Such a rush and I love the adrenaline I feel in the ring.

SG> What are you impressions of WOW thus far?
TG> I love WOW. The training is very grueling, but enjoyable - there is still a lot for me to learn. I think the promoter David McLane really is great and all of the women are wonderful athletes. It has been an awesome experience representing WOW as the first Women Of Wrestling Champ! The fans have been incredible and very supportive. At this point I would not change a thing.

SG> In general, do you consider yourself a big wrestling fan?
TG> Yes, I am a huge wrestling fan. People really do not understand the work, both mental and physical that goes into being a wrestler. It is a lot of work and I really respect everyone in WOW and the other organizations.

SG> Other than yourself, who is your favorite wrestler?
TG> It has to be Shawn Michaels and Lita!!

SG> How did you become the WOW champion?
TG> I became the WOW Champion by winning The Battle Royal. An over the top rope elimination with 19 other girls. Since then I have defended The Wow Championship Title to Jungle Grrrl, The Disciplinarian, Mystery and I think Ice Cold is next, no problem of course, I will melt her in the ring.

SG> Did you complete any formal pro wrestling training?
TG> All my training has been with WOW! I train every day and on the weekends with my trainer. We really have wonderful instructors and I am learning more and more every day. I study a lot of tapes and ask a lot of questions.

SG> What are you impressions of Dave McLane?
TG> David McLane is a great Promoter. He lines up great matches and really keeps things interesting. I could not imagine wrestling for anyone else at this time.

SG> Do you have creative control over your character?
TG> What character? I am Terri-Gold

SG> In general, how do you feel about how women's wrestling is perceived in the United States?
TG> I think that more and more people are tuning in to watch women’s wrestling. Now that we are offering a very clean fun organization I can't imagine the United States not wanting to watch! It is suitable for all ages, for EVERBODY! These women that I compete with and against are incredible, every one of them has great individual abilities, talent and skill. Everyone is so different and offers different things. I really think the people enjoy watching good clean wrestling!

SG> Is the WOW title your first championship?
TG> Well, it is my first wrestling championship. But I have won several titles in fitness and gymnastics.

SG> What is your age?
TG> Somewhere between 18 & 25 (ha ha!)

SG> Which is your favorite football team?
TG> Oh, my boyz!!! The Cowboys all the way! Always was a fan, Always will be no matter what!!

SG> How does the wrestling ring compare to the gymnastic floor?
TG> It definitely has its similarities. Both sports take a lot of mental preparation and planning. Both also combine a lot of strength and endurance. Since I use my tumbling skills in the ring, I have to keep up on my gymnastics.

SG> How would you describe your wrestling style?
TG> I think my wrestling style is Quick, High-Flying, Action Packed and Intense!

SG> Should professional wrestlers be viewed as role models?
TG> Yes, Any athlete that has a positive imagine can and should be viewed as a role model. Wrestlers go into the ring to compete and win using their physical and mental strengths. I believe in myself and my abilities inside and outside of the ring. I try to show that in my wrestling style. I feel that all athletes encompass drive, dedication, and determination, how they use it is up to them

SG> If you could have a match against anyone regardless of promotion, whom would it be against?
TG> Oh that is easy! Definitely Danger! She claims that it is Her House and Her Rules…. but It’s T-Gold’s Ring!!!!!

SG> What are your career goals?
TG> My goals are to continue defending the WOW Championship Belt for as long as I can and to keep training hard mentally and physically for whatever life brings me.

SG> Should women wrestlers wrestle men?
TG> No, I do not think that women and men should wrestle. It is obvious that most men have a huge weight and strength advantage over the women. That is why I love WOW. I am expected to only wrestle women, although I think the Women Of WOW could take on the men!

SG> Describe an average or typical day in your life.
TG> I wake up at around 4:30am and walk my dog. I get to the gym by about 5:15am and workout until 8am. I am usually starving by this time so I eat my first of 5-6 meals of oatmeal or cream or rice with 5-6 egg whites and take all my vitamins. I work and train all day until about 5pm, answer emails and fan mail. I head home for about 2 hours to see Sonoma again, make all my phone calls, plan my meals for the next day and pack my clothes for the gym in the morning, and then I head back over to the ring. I train until 8pm and make sure I am in bed by 9pm, after I call my parents of course to say goodnight! (Unless football is on or a really good movie!)

SG> Do you have any special words or a message for your fans?
TG> Definitely! Please believe in yourself, anything and everything is possible. Be yourself and don’t try to be anyone else…. you are perfect just the way you are. Train hard both mentally and physically and listen to your body!
