Rena Mero

Interview conducted: August 26, 2005

Key:
SG> Steve Gerweck
RM> Rena Mero

SG> What are you currently doing?
RM> I am designing clothes.

SG> Describe your current relationship with WWE? Do you feel the door is open for a another return?
RM> Probably not, but as I learned last time, never say never.

SG> What were the circumstances of your departure from WWE back in August 2004?
RM> I was unhappy with many things, mainly the way I was being used.

SG> What is your assessment of the current WWE product?
RM> It is very good at times, but some storylines and characters aren't good ideas.

SG> What is your opinion of the diva search competition?
RM> It's a good idea, but the way they do it is pretty bad. Instead of eating food and using whipped cream, they should show more of their talents.

SG> How much formal in ring wrestling training have you received? Who was most instrumental in your training?
RM> A few guys, mainly Marc (Mero).

SG> Trish Stratus came into the business like you, very pretty but without much formal training. Do you think you could have become as an accomplished wrestler as her given the chance?
RM> I'm not sure, but I wasn't looking to become a full-time wrestler for many years in a row like she has become.

SG> What was your opinion of the WWF wanting you to start wrestling?
RM> I was all for it, as it was time for me to go beyond just another pretty face.

SG> How did you originally get started with the WWF back in 1996?
RM> Marc was close to signing, and Vince McMahon asked me if I had been on TV. I said no, and soon after, a contract came my way.

SG> What are the major differences between then WWF and today's WWE?
RM> There used to be more pressure. We had to beat WCW. Today, there isn't as much pressure, and everything doesn't have to be perfect like it used to be.

SG> During a recent interview, Tammy Sytch had some rather harsh comments about you, what is your opinion of her?
RM> I thought she was always pretty nice, but got a little strange at times. She stretches things, but it's her opinion so I'm fine with that.

SG> WWF had you do a lot of revealing skits and angles. Did you ever object or feel uncomfortable doing them?
RM> The Lesbian angle both times. The first run I refused, second run I didn't.

SG> Do you blame the pro wrestling business for the deterioration of your marriage to Marc Mero? Same question pertaining to your dissolving or your engagement to Brock Lesnar?
RM> Not entirely, but it's hard to have a relationship when you aren't at home too often.

SG> A lot of people blame you for Brock's decision to leave wrestling for the NFL? Is that a fair criticism?
RM> No, that was always Brock's decision.

SG> What advice do you currently have for Brock?
RM> Go where your heart desires.

SG> What is your opinion of Brock Lesnar's lawsuit against WWE? Do you think he will be successful in getting out of his no compete clause, or do you believe it is more likely he'll return to WWE under his current terms?
RM> I think he'll end up returning to the WWE once he sees that that is his best option.

SG> In hindsight, do you regret appearing with Brock at the Tokyo Dome earlier this year?
RM> No, it was a fun experience.

SG> How old is your daughter? And what are her aspirations? Is she another diva in the makings?
RM> No, she's not interested in wrestling.

SG> Do you have any professional regrets?
RM> No, I've had a fun time.

SG> Do you still have your slammies?
RM> yes, they are somewhere.

SG> I believe you were offered a Playboy video deal, but turned it down. Any particular reason?
RM> I wasn't interested in Playboy TV.

SG> What were the circumstances that brought you to "Nitro" in 1999?
RM> Because I was talking to WCW. I wanted to sign there, but soon found out that I couldn't for a while. By the time I was able to, WCW was dead.

SG> What type of backlash did you receive from WWE when you appeared on WCW Nitro? Did WCW want you to come in as a wrestler or an on air talent?
RM> Mostly on air talent, maybe a match here and there. The WWE probably expected it to happen sooner or later.

SG> How did you get involved with XWF?
RM> I was asked to appear as the on-air commisioner and I accepted the proposal.

SG> Has TNA expressed any interest in using you?
RM> No, and I don't plan on going there.

SG> For the most part, you have avoided legends conventions/reunions, autograph signings, and independent shows. Any particular reason?
RM> I'm not interested in making all of these appearences now. I just want to keep it on the internet, for now.

SG> Tell me something that people would be surprised to learn about?
RM> My maiden name is Greek.

SG> Favorite moment or highlight in WWE/WWF?
RM> My debut match at Wrestlemania, winning the women's title, and performing in front of the troops in Iraq.
